Só para registrar: decidi mudar o nome da ConecTAZ Oraculismo para ZASF (a partir da publicação desse post no Desvio). Achei melhor trabalhar em termos mais genéricos e estruturais, e a partir da ZASF derivar subprojetos como Oraculismo ou outros (por exemplo, pensar em uma mimoSa sem fio, ou em uma burnstation etérea). Na verdade ainda estou indeciso sobre hospedar todas essas conversas na ConecTAZ Rede MExe, mas não tenho certeza.

Desde a campus party eu estou tentando começar a prototipar o oraculismo usando uma wi-fi USB. Eu estava com uma wi-fi que usa o driver zd1211rw. Não rolou, esse driver não funciona em modo Master. Me disseram que o chipset atheros funcionaria legal. Ontem na Santa If comprei outra, que o vendedor afirmou ser com chipset atheros. Não era. Cheguei em casa e é o mesmo Zydas zd1211. Parece que dá pra tentar usar o driver do fabricante, mas dá algum erro na compilação. Enquanto isso, acho que vou tentar em Ad-Hoc, mas isso tira um pouco das possibilidades.

Re-encontrei meu velho roteador WRT54G, e comecei a estudar o que podia fazer com ele. Algumas referências estão guardadas nos meus bookmarks no scuttle metarec. Gostei bastante do OpenWrt, mas no fim das contas como vai ter mais gente operando o roteador por aqui, acabei optando pelo DD-WRT, que não é tão aberto, mas ainda tem um monte de recursos, e é mais fácil de administrar. Mas fiquei curioso em ver que a Fonera pode rodar o Openwrt. Por enquanto, estou usando o roteador como repeater do sinal. Algumas anotações abaixo:

• dd-wrt. o site, o wiki, o fórum. tudo muito confuso. difícil saber qual versão não vai tijolar meu roteador. aqui tem alguma coisa: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=31978&postdays=0&postorder=...
• decidi baixar a versão standard do dd-wrt 24, com o firmware vintage. fiz um reset 30/30/30. entrei na interface web do roteador, fui em admin / firmware upgrade, procurei o arquivo e mandei ver. depois de um minuto, ele falou que tava completo e apareceu um botão de continuar. resetei outra vez.
• feito, interface do dd-wrt rolando esquema em 192.168.1.1
• seguindo isso aqui para transformar ele em repeater: http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/10724_3655041_1
• cheguei fácil até a parte de configurar o roteador como cliente. por cabo, tá rolando normal. loguei no roteador por ssh e telnet, sem problemas. seguindo as configurações do site, tudo funcionando. já estou acessando a rede pelo repetidor. e dei um boost na potência do transmissor. ainda estou pensando em mandar ver um overclock no processador dele, mas não tenho certeza se vale a pena.

Project Description

Oraculismo is an ongoing project willing to raise some critical issues related to information access and social dynamics, as well as pointing at analogies between magic and technologic learning. It brings a critical perspective about the ubiquity of internet access via wireless networks in urban contexts. Oraculismo intends to create wireless installations that are freely replicable, in order to create local experiences that can either be understood as environments for gaming, learning or information access. One of its methods is going further in the idea of de-mithifying technology, by attempting to create new myths that include the ideas of dynamic, social and collective exchange of information.

The public face of Oraculismo will consist of open wireless (wi-fi, 802.11x) networks that behave as shamanic totems or oracles, by interacting with visitors and offering negotiated information. These totems will be able to interact with people through different online tools, such as a chatterbot that, depending on the dialog, may point to a local network URL that can be accessed only once. Secrets, keywords, incremental stages for gaining access are elements to play with. Oraculismo will run on free software and will hopefully adopt alternatives for autonomous power supply.

Oraculismo needs little to start being developed. There are already plenty of alternatives offering free and open source software to manage wireless hotspots, as well as great examples of projects that offer free information in burn stations or similar artifacts. Doing the same with wireless networks is a step further in that direction, but on the other hand the negotiation is there to remind us that there are some kinds of learning in which it is not just a matter of just clicking and downloading bits.leia mais >>
